Sara Stedy for Westhaven

Alberni Valley Community Foundation made a donation of $2,000 for the Sara Stedy. This device is a manual sit-to-stand aid, which allows medical staff to transfer residents safely with ease and dignity. Because the device allows for the safe and efficient moving of residents, a significant added benefit is the prevention of back injuries to our nursing team and rehabilitation staff.

Having the Sara Stedy equipment available at Westhaven will:
- encourage residents to take an active role in everyday transfers from bed to chair, toilet or washbasin;
- enable one staff member to safely perform sit-to-stand tasks for a wide range of residents no matter their size;
- help staff and residents maintain reassuring eye contact while performing transfers (unlike when in a wheelchair); and
- support a wide range of essential everyday activities, such as dressing and washing practice.
