Situation is Critical Campaign
Fundraising is now underway for a Haemobank Blood Fridge for West Coast General Hospital. This life-saving equipment will fill a need in transfusion medicine, which almost always requires immediate attention for people in critical need. The Haemobank fridge works to support and supplement the work of Medical Lab Technicians [MLTs], setting up and releasing blood matches and products. MLTs are difficult-to-staff roles, so a technological solution to support the MLTs is an innovative solution that provides clinicians with safe, fast access to individual blood products where and when they are needed. “At a cost of $200,000, we hope to have this piece of equipment in use at WCGH by the end of 2026,” says Executive Director Erin Williams. “We are well on our way, thanks to a large donation from an anonymous donor!”

Stryker Video Tower for Hospital
Thanks to our donors, the WCGH Foundation was able to purchase a new Stryker Video Tower for the operating room at WCGH. The tower allows better and safer care of our patients in the Operating Room. The tower permits better visuals for Laparoscopic and Urology surgeries. The improved views allow the surgical team to work quicker and to keep the patient safer during procedures. This also results in quicker recovery times for patients with less time in Hospital. The Stryker Video Tower is a great benefit to West Coast General Hospital and the citizens of Port Alberni and surrounding areas.
